ACM's 50th Anniversary
In 2008-09, ACM is celebrating its 50th Anniversary.
Sustaining cooperation among a group of colleges, especially through decades that have seen dramatic changes in higher education, is a noteworthy achievement. This is undoubtedly a time to celebrate the enduring strength and the compelling basis for joint action that the core liberal arts mission of ACM colleges provides.
Soccer Classic kicks off 50th Anniversary
The celebration got off to a rousing start over Labor Day weekend with a soccer tournament featuring women’s and men’s teams from seven ACM colleges.
“Competition and Collaboration: 1958-2008” was the theme for the ACM 50th Anniversary Invitational Soccer Classic, a tribute to the consortium’s focus on academic collaboration and a reminder that the ten colleges that founded ACM were members of the same athletic conference. Read more
More events planned
The ACM Board of Directors has endorsed several other activities to celebrate and highlight the consortium and its member institutions.
- A student symposium on off-campus study (OCS), showcasing the top presentations on OCS from each campus by returning students;
- A photo contest on off-campus study for students at ACM colleges. Winning entries will be part of a travelling photo exhibit on ACM campuses in spring 2009.
- A reading and discussion forum at Monmouth College on the nature of liberal arts education and how it has changed in the past half century; and
- An all-star ACM choral concert in late February at Lawrence University.
